Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care and Fibromyalgia

A person may wonder what the upper neck has to do with fibromyalgia. Numerous studies have been done that can lead to seeing an upper neck misalignment as a potential cause. The C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) vertebrae are located at the point in the neck where the brainstem meets the spinal cord. This area is closely related to the central nervous system. Therefore, a misaligned vertebra can put just enough pressure on the spinal cord to hinder communication to and from the brain and body. This can cause the brain to signal severe pain when there is little or no pain at all. This can also cause fatigue and other symptoms of fibromyalgia.

A study was done involving a 32-year-old female who had fibromyalgia. She had chronic pain, sleep disorders, and fatigue. She received 6 months of upper cervical chiropractic care with 8 total adjustments. She reported that she was now free of all symptoms of fibromyalgia.

By correcting the misalignments in the upper neck, the body begins to restore itself back to normal functioning. Nerve and tissue damage can heal, and the body can communicate at the proper level once again. This has resulted in many patients feeling much better overall and finding natural relief from fibromyalgia symptoms.
