Vertigo is one of the symptoms of Meniere’s disease and can be quite debilitating. Meniere’s disease is also accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • Tinnitus – Ringing, roaring, whistling, buzzing, or hissing in the ear
  • A feeling of fullness in the affected ear
  • Hearing loss, which can be intermittent but become permanent if not cared for
  • Vertigo – a sensation that the person or the things around him are moving (often spinning), lasting for 20 minutes to several hours, and sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting

The Role Inner Ear Plays in Vertigo

The inner ear plays a vital part in one’s sense of balance. It is made up of many passageways covered in special sensors that respond to the fluid in the ear. If the fluid changes in chemical composition, pressure, or volume, the signals to the brain also change and can lead to Meniere’s disease.

An article was recently published by the Tech Times pointing to a possible cure for Meniere’s disease. This is exciting news, as up till now, the condition has remained incurable. Research was done at a university in Colorado showing a connection between Meniere’s disease and other medical conditions that have reduced blood flow to the brain, such as migraines. It seems to be the cause of Meniere’s disease. Can anything reverse this process and restore normal blood flow?

Vertigo and Meniere’s Helped by Proper Neck Alignment

The top bones of the neck are of vital importance to the overall health of a person and to the amount of blood able to get to and from the head. The atlas and axis vertebrae are exclusive in their location and shape. If they misalign, It can affect the vertebral arteries, leading to a reduction in blood flow to the brain.

Here at our Honolulu, Hawaii location, we use a gentle method to encourage these bones to move back into place. Once this misalignment is corrected, blood flow can be regulated, and many of our patients see relief from symptoms like vertigo.
