Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that can be unpredictable and quite devastating for those who are diagnosed with it.  Since the central nervous system is responsible for carrying the information flow between the brain and the body, those with MS can experience a wide variety of symptoms that have the capacity to severely impact their ability to function.  With an estimated 2.3 million people worldwide affected by MS, identifying a cause and exploring relief options is extremely important.1

A fatty coating called myelin surrounds nerves in the central nervous system.  The myelin serves to “insulate” and protect the nerves.  In MS patients, the immune system attacks the myelin forming scar tissue, or sclerosis, giving the disease its name.  When a part of this myelin coating is damaged, nerve impulses carrying information to and from the brain and spinal cord can be interrupted or distorted, which is what produces the wide variety of symptoms seen in MS patients.

Multiple Sclerosis and Upper Cervical Chiropractic

The exact cause of MS remains elusive to many scientists, but an encouraging diagnostic breakthrough came in 2011 when MRI developer Dr. Raymond Damadian reported that a 41-year-old MS patient had been relieved of her symptoms with a natural, non-invasive relief care.  This relief was upper cervical chiropractic, and it’s the same type of care delivered by Dr. Breuwet in Honolulu, Hawaii.  In the MS patient in the study, a misalignment of the bones in the upper part of the neck was impeding normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which is responsible for circulating nutrients and removing waste products from the brain.  Once normal CSF flow was restored by realigning those bones, the patient experienced a complete cessation of MS symptoms.2

In  a 2004 study of 44 MS patients undergoing upper cervical chiropractic care, the majority reported a substantial improvement of their symptoms.3  Utilizing the same procedure, Dr. Breuwet is able to assess the position of the upper cervical vertebrae, determine if there is a misalignment, and make the necessary correction to allow proper function to return.
