The Important Role of the Neck in Post-Concussion Syndrome

Neck Pain, Post Concussion, Brain Injury, Accident, Whiplash

There is a lot of information out there about how concussions affect the human body. More research is coming out on the after effects of this traumatic injury. A recent study reviewed multiple articles showing relationship of the cervical spine and effects of post-concussion syndrome.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that changes the way your brain works. They usually are caused by a major blow to the head like from a motor vehicle accident, whiplash, slip, trip, fall, sports or even when the head is violently shaken. Concussions can cause a loss of consciousness, but a lot concussions don’t. In other words, people can have concussions and do not even know it. Headaches, difficulty with concentration, memory, balance and coordination are common side effects. Even though the symptoms start immediately after the accident, they can continue on for months afterwards.

The Link Between a Concussion and Upper Cervical Spine

The recent study showed that this chronic condition is related to cervical spine dysfunction and is very treatable. The upper cervical spine is located at top of the spine. The brainstem is housed in that area and regulates the central nervous system. A misalignment in the upper cervical spine puts pressure on the brainstem creating interference in the nervous system and possibly many of the symptoms associated with PCS. NUCCA is gentle, non-invasive technique can help restore body balance for healing.
