No direct cause has been found for fibromyalgia, but theories point to chronic inflammation of the immune system and central nervous system. The nerve endings affected by this inflammation become super sensitive and cause widespread pain.

The job of the spine is to protect the spinal cord from damage. Nerves attach to the spinal cord and the brain. The spinal cord and brainstem relay messages about what is happening in the body to and from the brain. Such things as pain, how the body moves, and body temperature are included.
